The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that 172 people have died from Lassa fever outbreaks recorded in 21 states across the country.In its latest situation report, the agency said that hundreds of suspected and confirmed cases were documented within the year, warning that the number could rise if preventive measures are not strictly observed.
The NCDC noted that states in the southern and northern regions remain most affected, adding that surveillance and response activities have been intensified to curb further spread.It urged Nigerians to maintain proper hygiene, store food safely, and keep their environments clean to prevent contact with rodents that transmit the virus.The Centre reaffirmed its commitment to supporting affected states with medical supplies, treatment protocols, and laboratory testing to contain the disease.
