Suspected armed herdsmen launched an attack on Agboda community in Mararaba Udege, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, on Monday evening, causing widespread panic and abruptly halting an ongoing church crusade in the area.
Residents said the assailants stormed the community at about 7 p.m., shooting sporadically and forcing worshippers and villagers to flee for safety. The church programme, which had drawn a large crowd, was immediately thrown into chaos as people ran in different directions to escape the gunfire.
Several houses were reportedly deserted overnight, with some families seeking refuge in neighbouring communities.
Although no fatalities had been confirmed as of press time, locals fear there may be casualties or missing persons due to the scale of the attack.
Community members have called on security agencies and the Nasarawa State Government to urgently intervene and strengthen security presence in the area, noting that the region has experienced repeated attacks by armed groups in recent times.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
