The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, which marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday, August 21, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion.
The minister urged Nigerians to reflect on the values associated with the life of Prophet Muhammad, particularly compassion, humility and service to humanity.
He said the celebration also provided an opportunity for Nigerians to pray for peace, unity and stability across the country, stressing that maintaining national cohesion was a collective responsibility.
Tunji-Ojo further encouraged citizens to celebrate with restraint, tolerance and mutual respect while wishing the Muslim community a peaceful and joyous Eid.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring peace and security across the country.
