A remarkable love story has emerged from Brazil, where a former nun and a Catholic priest, who first connected through prayer, have tied the knot in secret after years of spiritual friendship and reflection.
According to Brazilian news outlet O Globo, Lais Dognini, once a devoted nun who later became a social media influencer, met Father Jackson Dognini several years ago during a difficult chapter in her life. Lais was battling depression after leaving the convent where she had spent two years as a Carmelite sister, dedicating her life to prayer and service.

Their paths crossed when Jackson, who was still in the seminary training for the priesthood, reached out to her with a message of spiritual support. He told her that he would be praying for her healing and strength. What started as a simple act of compassion soon blossomed into a deep emotional connection built on faith, friendship, and shared values.
Interestingly, both had been part of the same missionary community for years but had never spoken directly. “We were always in the same spaces, yet we never even said hello,” Lais reportedly told O Globo. But fate took an unexpected turn when their conversations grew more frequent and meaningful, gradually turning friendship into love.

Jackson, who had devoted five years to seminary life, began to question his calling and spent months in reflection before deciding to leave the priesthood. Meanwhile, Lais was rebuilding her life and finding purpose beyond the convent. Their bond strengthened as they both navigated these transitions together.
In April 2024, they officially began dating, and by October of the same year, Jackson proposed. The couple eventually got married in secret in March 2025, choosing to keep their union private until they felt ready to share it with the world.
On October 7, Lais publicly confirmed their marriage for the first time via an Instagram Story, expressing her happiness and peace with the decision. “It doesn’t seem like much, right? But let’s face it, we’re adults now and we know what we want in life,” she wrote, alongside photos of the couple together.

Their story has sparked conversations online about love, faith, and the difficult choices faced by those who dedicate their lives to religious service. Despite leaving behind their religious vocations, both Lais and Jackson have said they continue to live guided by the same principles of spirituality, compassion, and purpose that first brought them together in prayer.
