A 55-year-old community leader, Jacob Bature, has reportedly been shot dead by his neighbour following an argument at a beer parlour in Bauchi State.
Bature, who served as the Mai Anguwa of Unguwar Ngas in the Inkil area of Bauchi Local Government Area, was allegedly attacked on the evening of Sunday, July 19, 2026.
According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the suspect, 40-year-old Clement Anthony, was arrested after the incident. Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said officers recovered a locally made single-barrel gun and one expended cartridge believed to have been used in the shooting.
Police said the suspect allegedly opened fire on Bature, leaving him with severe gunshot wounds to his right ribs. The victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.
Residents of the community told reporters that the shooting reportedly occurred shortly after a disagreement between the two men at a nearby beer parlour.
