The Edo State Police Command has begun a full-scale manhunt for the gunmen who killed a police inspector during a routine stop-and-search operation.
According to the command, the incident occurred when unidentified assailants opened fire on officers on duty, fatally wounding the inspector before escaping from the scene. The attackers were said to have taken advantage of the surprise assault to flee with the officer’s service rifle.
Police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police has ordered an immediate investigation, vowing that the perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to justice.
Security has been intensified across the area as operatives comb surrounding communities in search of the suspects.
The command appealed to residents to remain calm and assist with credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation. It also reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and the protection of officers carrying out lawful duties.
