The Owelle of Onicha-Olona, Chief Jerry Nkeweshe, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, demanding an immediate retraction of a statement allegedly linking him to the killing of three youths in Asaba.
Chief Nkeweshe, in a strongly worded statement, described the allegation as “baseless, damaging, and capable of tarnishing a reputation built over decades.” He insisted that he had no involvement in the incident and accused the police of irresponsibly associating his name with a crime he knows nothing about.
According to him, the police commissioner must publicly withdraw the claim and clarify the circumstances under which his name was mentioned. Failure to do so within 14 days, he warned, would leave him with no choice but to initiate legal proceedings for defamation, malicious falsehood, and abuse of office.
Nkeweshe further urged the authorities to conduct a proper investigation and avoid politicizing matters of public safety, stressing that the affected families deserve truth and justice—not misinformation.
He reaffirmed his confidence in the judicial system and vowed to protect his name and title from what he termed a deliberate attempt to smear his character.
