Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have arrested the driver of a Mercedes Benz truck involved in a fatal accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian along Osborne Road in Ikoyi.According to eyewitnesses, the tragic incident occurred after the truck reportedly suffered a brake failure, veering off its lane and hitting the victim, who died instantly.
LASTMA personnel on duty swiftly responded to the scene, securing the area and preventing a possible mob attack on the driver. The vehicle was subsequently impounded, while the driver was handed over to the police for further investigation.
LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq confirmed the incident, adding that the agency was working closely with the police to ensure justice is served and to promote safer driving practices across the state.He also urged motorists to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles, especially heavy-duty trucks, to prevent avoidable accidents on Lagos roads.
