The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has successfully completed the deportation of 192 foreign nationals convicted for cyber-terrorism and related offences in Lagos.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, the coordinated operation followed months of joint investigations, prosecutions, and court convictions of the offenders, most of whom were arrested during nationwide crackdowns on cyber-fraud syndicates.The EFCC disclosed that the convicts, who were from various African and Asian countries, had served their jail terms in Nigeria and were subsequently handed over to the NIS for deportation in line with existing immigration laws.
“The deportation exercise is part of the government’s broader effort to rid the country of transnational cybercriminal networks and restore Nigeria’s integrity in the global digital space,” the statement read.
The anti-graft agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustained collaboration with local and international law enforcement partners to combat cyber-terrorism, money laundering, and other forms of financial crime.Officials of the NIS also confirmed that the deportees have been placed on a watchlist to prevent re-entry into Nigeria.
