A Moroccan court has sentenced a student to one year in prison for his involvement in the recent youth-led “Gen Z” protests that swept across the country.According to his lawyer, the student was arrested during demonstrations organized by young Moroccans demanding political reforms, better economic opportunities, and greater freedom of expression.
The verdict, delivered on Friday, has drawn criticism from human rights groups who accuse authorities of cracking down on peaceful protesters instead of addressing the root causes of youth frustration.
The “Gen Z” protests, which began online before spilling into the streets, have become a symbol of growing discontent among Morocco’s younger generation over unemployment and rising living costs.
