The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi following an alleged comment in which he reportedly directed supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party ahead of the state governorship election.
The election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The invitation followed the circulation of a video on social media showing Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, speaking in Yoruba during an APC campaign rally in Ilesa on Tuesday.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police, Elections, Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, the police asked the senator to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo.
Fadahunsi was directed to report at 11am on Wednesday, August 12, to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged remarks.
According to the police, the invitation was based on information alleging that the senator made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” during the campaign.
The command also noted that the alleged remarks had been widely circulated across electronic and social media platforms.
However, Fadahunsi has denied making any statement encouraging violence against Accord Party members. He reportedly maintained that his words were taken out of context and claimed that the video currently circulating online was AI-generated.
The development comes as security agencies intensify efforts to prevent violence and maintain peace ahead of the Osun governorship election.
