Dozens of fighters were reportedly killed after a violent clash between rival terrorist groups, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and the Bukura faction, near the Nigeria–Niger border in Borno State.
Security sources said the fighting broke out in remote communities close to Lake Chad, a known stronghold for insurgent groups operating across Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. The clash is believed to have been triggered by a power struggle over territory, weapons, and control of smuggling routes in the border area.
Residents and local sources reported hearing heavy gunfire for hours, forcing civilians to flee their homes to safer locations. Several bodies were said to be left behind after the fighting, though exact casualty figures could not be independently confirmed.
