
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed Hamas’s recent statement indicating its willingness to release hostages and engage in discussions over the Gaza ceasefire plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.Guterres described the move as a “positive and necessary step” toward ending the prolonged conflict in Gaza, urging all parties to seize the opportunity to pursue peace and alleviate the suffering of civilians.

He reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a sustainable ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the eventual reconstruction of Gaza.The UN chief also called on Israel and other stakeholders to respond constructively to the renewed peace efforts, emphasizing that “dialogue and compromise remain the only viable paths to lasting stability in the region.”
