The traditionalist stressed that Yemoja and Olokun hold sacred positions in Yoruba spirituality and should be depicted with greater respect and cultural accuracy. He urged filmmakers to consult traditional worshippers and cultural experts before producing movies centred on indigenous religion and heritage.
The criticism has sparked conversations online, with many social media users expressing differing opinions. While some agreed that traditional beliefs should be portrayed authentically, others defended the film as a work of fiction and artistic expression.
