Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters launched a deadly ambush on a Nigerian military convoy in Borno State on Friday night, reportedly capturing a serving military general and killing several personnel.
According to a report by HumAngle, the insurgents targeted the convoy as it moved through a vulnerable stretch of road, opening heavy fire that overwhelmed the troops. Several soldiers, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), were killed during the attack.
The incident marks one of the most serious assaults on Nigerian forces in recent months, with the abduction of a high-ranking officer raising significant security concerns.
Military authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but search and rescue operations were said to be underway as of early Saturday.
The ambush adds to ongoing security challenges in the North East, where ISWAP continues to stage coordinated attacks despite intensified military operations in the region.
