Obasa, Orelope-Adefulire Grace Lagos Event, Call for Stronger Governance and Development AgendaSpeaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State (2011–2015), Dr. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, who currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), were among the dignitaries who graced a high-level event in Lagos on Thursday.The gathering, which attracted political leaders, policymakers, and development stakeholders, centered on strengthening governance structures, accelerating community-based development, and aligning state policies with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.In his remarks, Speaker Obasa emphasized the need for proactive legislative action in tackling developmental challenges.
“Lagos has always set the pace in governance. What we do here often becomes a model for other states. Our Assembly is committed to laws and policies that uplift our people and secure the future of our state,”
he said.On her part, Orelope-Adefulire underscored the importance of inclusive governance and the SDG agenda, stressing that sustainable growth could only be achieved through deliberate collaboration across all levels of government.
“The SDGs are not just global targets; they are practical solutions to everyday issues like poverty, education, healthcare, and gender equality. Lagos has a unique opportunity to lead by example,”
she noted.She also urged Nigerians to remain optimistic, noting that the federal government was focused on integrating sustainable practices into its national development strategy.The event further highlighted Lagos State’s efforts to balance urban expansion with sustainable planning, with participants calling for deeper collaboration between lawmakers, government agencies, and the private sector.Both Obasa and Orelope-Adefulire received commendations for their contributions to public service, particularly in championing policies that address social welfare, women empowerment, and grassroots development.
