Peter Obi Condemns Killing of Traders, Pregnant Woman by Security Outfit in OnitshaThe 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the killing of traders, including a pregnant woman, allegedly by a state-backed security outfit in Onitsha, Anambra State. In a statement on Thursday, Obi described the incident as tragic, inhuman, and unacceptable, stressing that no grievance should justify the killing of innocent citizens.

He said such acts only deepen public mistrust in security agencies and worsen the already fragile peace in the country.Obi, who served as governor of Anambra State between 2006 and 2014, called for a thorough investigation into the matter and urged authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. He further sympathized with the families of the victims, praying for comfort for the bereaved and urging the government to prioritize the protection of lives and property.

“This tragic incident in Onitsha underscores the urgent need for comprehensive security sector reforms. Security agencies must operate within the ambit of the law and respect the sanctity of human life,” Obi said. The killings, which occurred during a confrontation between traders and the security outfit, have sparked widespread outrage and heightened tensions in the commercial city.
