The Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, has showered high praise on the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for initiating the construction of the Otovwodo Flyover in Ughelli, describing the project as a historic and transformative intervention that will redefine the socio-economic landscape of the kingdom.

The royal commendation was given on Monday at the monarch’s palace shortly after the groundbreaking ceremony of the Otovwodo Flyover project in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area. The monarch, while warmly receiving Governor Oborevwori and other top government functionaries, traditional rulers and stakeholders, expressed profound appreciation for what he described as a bold step towards turning Ughelli into a modern and well-connected urban centre.

According to the Ovie, the flyover project represents a significant milestone in the developmental journey of Ughelli Kingdom, stressing that meaningful development directly translates into improved living standards, economic growth and enhanced safety for the people. He noted that for decades, residents and road users around the Otovwodo axis have suffered from persistent traffic congestion, accidents and delays, challenges which the flyover is set to permanently resolve.

Speaking through the Otota (Spokesman) of Ughelli Kingdom, Chief Peter Akpofure, HRM Oharisi III commended Governor Oborevwori for his visionary leadership, pragmatic approach to governance and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. He highlighted the Governor’s completion of several strategic roads within the Otovwodo axis and other parts of Ughelli Kingdom, which he said have already brought noticeable relief to motorists and commuters.

The monarch further acknowledged the construction and rehabilitation of other critical road networks across the kingdom, as well as the appointment of sons and daughters of Ughelli Kingdom into key and strategic positions in the state. These actions, he said, have strengthened inclusion, boosted confidence in government and contributed to community upliftment and unity.

“This Otovwodo Flyover will permanently change the face of Ughelli. It is a legacy project that will be remembered, cherished and appreciated by generations yet unborn,” the monarch declared. He offered prayers for divine wisdom, strength, adequate resources and the support of men and institutions for Governor Oborevwori to successfully deliver on his mandate. He also pledged the total cooperation, loyalty and support of the Ughelli people to the Oborevwori administration.

In his response, Governor Oborevwori expressed deep gratitude to the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, the traditional council and the entire people of the kingdom for the warm reception and sustained support. He described traditional institutions as indispensable partners in grassroots development, peace-building and community mobilization.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the delivery of people-oriented and impactful infrastructure projects across Delta State. He explained that the Otovwodo Flyover was carefully designed to decongest traffic, improve road safety, enhance connectivity and stimulate commercial and economic activities in Ughelli, in line with his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for all, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security.

In a related engagement, Governor Oborevwori paid a courtesy visit to the Ughelli residence of renowned industrialist and political leader, Olorogun Morrison Olori, founder of the Ukodo Nation Political Support Group. During the visit, Olori and members of the group commended the Governor for his wide-ranging developmental strides across the state, particularly in infrastructure and human capital development.

They assured the Governor of their unflinching support and loyalty, pledging to mobilize grassroots backing for his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections, while praying for continued success in his leadership of Delta State.
