The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with an alleged defilement case and has taken disciplinary action against some of its officers accused of misconduct.
According to the command, the suspect was apprehended following a report lodged by the victim’s family, after which investigations commenced. The police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a related development, the command disclosed that some police officers handling the case were detained after it was discovered that they allegedly demanded a ₦100,000 bribe from the complainant. The officers have been subjected to internal disciplinary procedures in line with police regulations.
The Imo State Police Command condemned the actions of the officers, stressing that corruption and unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated. The command reaffirmed its commitment to justice, transparency, and the protection of victims, especially in sensitive cases involving minors.
Members of the public were encouraged to report any form of police misconduct, with assurances that such complaints would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate sanctions applied where necessary.
