The Delta State Police Command has thwarted a planned kidnapping operation, forcing suspected hoodlums to flee and abandon weapons, ammunition, and food items, including soaked garri and groundnuts.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team acted on credible intelligence to raid a suspected criminal hideout along a bush path in the Upper Agbarho area of the state.
According to the police, intelligence reports revealed that about six suspected kidnappers were operating in the area, prompting a coordinated operation at about 9:35 p.m. on January 11, 2026. The operation was led by Julius Robinson in collaboration with local vigilantes.
The statement said the suspects opened fire on sighting the operatives, but the police responded with superior firepower, forcing them to flee into the bush with varying degrees of injury.
Items recovered at the scene included a bowl of soaked garri with three spoons, nylons of groundnuts and garri, sachets of alcoholic drinks, matches, lighters, one FNC rifle loaded with a live round, and one pump-action gun with 32 live cartridges.
“All exhibits have been recovered and taken into custody,” the police said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Reacting to the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, praised the officers for their bravery and effective intelligence-led policing. He reiterated that the command remains committed to denying criminal elements the freedom to operate, warning that Delta State will remain hostile to all forms of criminal activity.
