Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has called on Christians to take responsibility for their words and actions rather than using Bible verses to avoid criticism or accountability.
In a recent social media post, Njoku addressed the way some Christians reportedly quote the scripture, “Touch not my anointed,” whenever they are criticised or confronted over their actions.
According to her, the scripture should not be used as a shield against accountability, particularly when someone is facing the consequences of something they said or did.
Njoku explained that the scripture is relevant when a person is being falsely accused, lied against or deliberately targeted unfairly. However, she argued that it should not be used to defend something that is known to be untrue.
She further warned that using scripture to justify wrongdoing could eventually work against the person doing so.
The actress also stressed that nobody is perfect, including men of God, and encouraged Christians to acknowledge their mistakes, accept responsibility and learn from them.
Njoku urged people to extend to others the same grace and understanding they would want to receive when they make mistakes.
