The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, for allegedly causing the death of his girlfriend, Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, 35, in Kaduna State.

According to the police, a report was received on September 5 after the lifeless body of the woman was discovered along Mai Angwa Street in the Romi area of Kaduna. Witnesses reportedly found cotton wool stuffed in her nose, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Police detectives from the Romi Outstation swiftly responded to the scene and rushed the victim to St. Gerald Hospital in Kakuri, where medical personnel confirmed her death. Her remains have since been deposited in the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was the last person known to have contacted the deceased, allegedly inviting her to meet him at Ebano Joint in Romi. Acting on the information gathered, police operatives tracked and arrested him at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, located in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that he had a confrontation with the deceased in his room after a phone call from another woman sparked an argument. He allegedly admitted that the altercation led to her death and confessed to dumping her body in a nearby open field in an attempt to conceal the incident.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue. He added that the case will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Authorities have assured the public that justice will be pursued as the investigation progresses.
