The Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State has been abducted by suspected bandits after a deadly attack that claimed the lives of four security personnel.
The attackers reportedly ambushed the chairman’s convoy while he was travelling along a major road in the state. During the attack, four security operatives providing escort were killed in a gun battle with the assailants.
Military troops and other security agencies quickly launched a rescue operation. They successfully rescued five members of the chairman’s family who were travelling with him, but the council chairman was taken away by the gunmen.
Security forces have since intensified search-and-rescue efforts across nearby forests and communities to locate the abducted chairman and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The latest incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State, where attacks by armed bandits continue to threaten the lives of residents despite ongoing military operations.
