The Kano State High Court has sentenced Shuaibu Abdulkadir to death by hanging after finding him guilty of murdering 23-year-old housewife, Rumasa’u Shuaibu.

Delivering judgment on Friday, July 24, 2026, Justice Farida Rabiu-Danbappa ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The judge convicted Abdulkadir of culpable homicide and sentenced him to death by hanging, while informing him that he has 90 days to appeal the judgment.

According to the prosecution, led by Basiru Kabiru-Ali, the incident occurred on April 6, 2025, in the Farawa Quarters area of Kano. The court heard that the victim was a friend of the convict’s girlfriend.

During the trial, the prosecution presented three witnesses and tendered seven exhibits, including the deceased’s mobile phone, photographs, and the defendant’s confessional statement, to support its case.

Although Abdulkadir denied committing the offence, the court found the evidence presented by the prosecution sufficient to secure a conviction under Section 221 of the Penal Code.

The defence counsel, Mustapha Idris, asked the court to temper justice with mercy, describing the convict as a first-time offender who had shown remorse. However, the plea did not alter the court’s decision, and the death sentence was upheld.
