A journalist has narrated how he was allegedly harassed, detained, and had his phones confiscated by police officers and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the Anambra State House of Assembly complex.
According to him, the incident occurred when he visited the Assembly on official duty. He said he was stopped by security operatives who demanded to search his belongings, including his mobile phones. Despite identifying himself as a journalist, he claimed the officers insisted on seizing his devices.
He alleged that the security personnel forced him into detention within the complex, denying him access to his phone and restricting his movement for several hours. He described the experience as humiliating and an abuse of power.
The journalist said he was eventually released after intervention from senior officials, but insisted that the conduct of the officers amounted to intimidation and an attempt to hinder press freedom.
He has since called on the Anambra State Government and relevant authorities to investigate the incident and ensure such violations do not happen again.
