A man was safely rescued after becoming trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator in a three-storey building on Freeman Street, Zapass, Lagos Island East LCDA, Lagos.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
According to the statement, the agency received a distress call at about 11:50 a.m. and immediately dispatched a rescue team from the Ebute Elefun Fire Station. The firefighters arrived at the scene within five minutes and quickly began rescue operations.
The trapped man was successfully freed from the elevator without sustaining any injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was caused by an accidental elevator malfunction. The fire service also confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the operation.
