The Enugu State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a commercial bus driver and his conductor after they allegedly assaulted a police officer, snatched his AK-47 rifle, and fled the scene.
The incident reportedly occurred during a routine police operation in Enugu. According to the police, the officer attempted to stop the commercial bus for questioning when the driver and conductor allegedly attacked him. In the process, they reportedly seized the officer’s AK-47 rifle before knocking him down with the vehicle as they escaped.
The injured officer was rushed to a hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.
The police have described the suspects as dangerous and urged members of the public with useful information about their whereabouts to report to the nearest police station. Authorities also assured residents that efforts are underway to recover the stolen rifle and arrest those responsible.
