The three-year ban imposed on Ejikeme Mmesoma by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is set to expire this July, marking the end of a punishment that followed the widely publicized 2023 UTME score forgery controversy.
Mmesoma came under national scrutiny in 2023 after she claimed to have scored 362 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, JAMB stated that its records showed she actually scored 249 and accused her of presenting a falsified result.
An investigation by a committee set up by the Anambra State Government concluded that the result she displayed was fake. The panel found that Mmesoma manipulated her UTME score and recommended that she receive psychological counselling and issue a public apology.
Following the findings, JAMB banned her from taking the UTME for three years, beginning in 2023. With the ban expected to expire this July, she will once again be eligible to register for future UTME examinations if she chooses to continue her academic pursuits.
The case sparked widespread debate across Nigeria about examination malpractice, digital result verification, and the importance of honesty in the country’s education system.
