U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is effectively over following a fresh wave of military clashes.
Speaking during a NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye, Trump strongly criticized Iran’s leadership, describing them as “scum,” “liars,” and “cuckoo.” He said he no longer believes further negotiations with Tehran are worthwhile after renewed attacks and counterstrikes between both countries.
The latest escalation came after the U.S. launched dozens of strikes on Iranian military targets in response to attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran retaliated by firing missiles and drones at U.S. military bases in the Gulf, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
Trump insisted that while U.S. negotiators may continue discussions, he considers the ceasefire finished, accusing Iranian officials of failing to honor previous agreements.
The renewed fighting has increased tensions across the Middle East and pushed global oil prices higher as investors worry about possible disruptions to energy supplies and regional stability.
