A Nigerian woman, Chidindu Elijah, has opened up about the domestic violence she endured during her marriage, revealing the painful experience that eventually gave her the courage to walk away.
Chidindu, a mother of three, shared her story on Facebook on Saturday, August 22, 2026, the date that would have marked her 18th wedding anniversary.
Instead of marking the occasion with her former husband, she chose to spend the day with her three children, describing them as her joy givers and the reason behind her happiness.
Sharing a photo showing her battered face, Chidindu recounted the abuse she suffered and how watching her children cry as their father assaulted her became a turning point in her life.
She said the heartbreaking scene made her realise that she needed to choose herself and protect her children from the trauma of witnessing the abuse.
Reflecting on the experience, Chidindu said the deepest wounds were not only the physical injuries she suffered but also the emotional pain caused by someone she had trusted and loved.
According to her, the man she believed would protect her eventually became the source of some of the greatest pain she had ever experienced.
Her story highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence on victims and their children, while also serving as a reminder that leaving an abusive relationship can be a difficult but necessary step toward safety and healing.
