Popular social media activist and influencer, VeryDarkMan, has revealed that Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy once warned him that the same Nigerians he was constantly fighting for could eventually turn against him.
Speaking during a recent discussion, VeryDarkMan said Burna Boy advised him to be careful about expecting loyalty or appreciation from the public, noting that public opinion can change quickly regardless of a person’s efforts or sacrifices.
According to him, the warning became more meaningful after he witnessed the backlash Burna Boy received from some Nigerians following an incident at the singer’s concert in the United Kingdom. VeryDarkMan suggested that the criticism directed at Burna Boy reinforced the singer’s earlier point about how public support can sometimes be unpredictable.
He explained that despite Burna Boy’s achievements and contributions to promoting Nigerian music globally, the artist still faced harsh criticism from some sections of the public over the controversy surrounding the UK show.
VeryDarkMan’s remarks have since generated widespread reactions on social media. While some Nigerians agreed with his view, arguing that public figures are often criticised regardless of their intentions, others accused him of making sweeping generalisations about Nigerians. Some critics also questioned the nature of his relationship with Burna Boy and whether his comments were influenced by personal loyalty to the singer.
The discussion has continued to spark debate online, with many users sharing differing opinions on celebrity culture, public expectations, and the challenges faced by influential figures in the spotlight.
