A civilian aircraft carrying members of a parachuting school crashed near the town of Tomblaine in northeastern France on Sunday, June 28, killing all 11 people on board.
According to French authorities, the aircraft went down shortly after taking off from Nancy-Essey Airport at around 11 a.m. local time. Those killed included the pilot, five parachuting instructors, and five students participating in a skydiving training session.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and medical teams, rushed to the scene and secured the crash site. Fortunately, no injuries were reported on the ground despite the aircraft crashing near a populated area.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. While the exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined, officials suspect the aircraft may have experienced a technical problem shortly after takeoff.
French aviation investigators are expected to examine the wreckage and flight records to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
