Police Arrest Two Fake NDLEA Operatives in Abia for Impersonation and Extortion

The Abia State Police Command has arrested two suspected impostors, identified as Anthony Kelechi and Bright Abraham, for allegedly posing as operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The suspects were apprehended following the circulation of a viral video that reportedly showed them assaulting and harassing members of the public while falsely claiming to be NDLEA officials.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had been using the identity of the anti-drug agency to intimidate, extort, and unlawfully obtain money from unsuspecting victims.

The command stated that their arrest was made possible through intelligence gathering and public cooperation after the video sparked outrage online. Authorities confirmed that neither of the suspects is affiliated with the NDLEA.

Police officials have assured residents that the suspects will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law. The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report individuals who falsely claim to be security operatives or government officials.

The police reiterated their commitment to protecting citizens from criminal elements and warned against impersonation of law enforcement agencies, describing it as a serious offence punishable under Nigerian law.
