Operatives of the Anambra State security outfit, Agunechemba, have neutralized three suspected gunmen who allegedly attacked the convoy of an aide to Governor Chukwuma Soludo in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred during a security operation in the area after intelligence reports indicated the movement of armed criminals suspected to be involved in violent attacks across parts of the state.
According to security sources, the gunmen launched an attack on the convoy of the governor’s aide, prompting a swift response from Agunechemba operatives. A fierce gun battle reportedly ensued, resulting in the death of three of the attackers.
Following the operation, security personnel recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition from the suspects, including Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs), AK-47 rifles, magazines, and other dangerous items believed to have been used in criminal activities.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang who escaped during the exchange of gunfire. Security agencies have intensified surveillance and patrols in the area to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents.
The Anambra State Government reiterated its commitment to combating insecurity and maintaining law and order across the state, urging residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
The successful operation is being viewed as another significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activities and restore peace in communities affected by armed violence.
