Jos, Plateau State — Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Minister, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has announced a major federal government plan to deploy thousands of Artificial Intelligence-powered surveillance cameras across Plateau State, starting with Jos, to tackle insecurity.
The announcement was made during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolence visit to Jos following recent deadly attacks in the state. President Tinubu directed the immediate rollout of over 5,000 AI-enabled cameras to strengthen security and enable real-time monitoring.
Speaking emotionally, Minister Tijani, who was a student at the University of Jos during the 2001 crisis, recalled how his family was affected by the violence.
“This is not just a government project for me. I studied here, and my family experienced the pain of 2001. We will not allow such incidents to recur,” he said.
The AI camera network is expected to help security agencies identify threats quickly, track perpetrators, and serve as a strong deterrent against future attacks. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Plateau State Government.
This technology-driven approach builds on similar successful deployments in Lagos and Enugu.
President Tinubu also ordered security agencies to hunt down those responsible for the recent killings.
