Terrorists Abduct Passengers on Busy Kwara Highway

News

Barely 48 hours after suspected terrorists killed more than 40 people in Agwara and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State, another deadly incident has been recorded in neighbouring Kwara State.

In the early hours of yesterday, suspected terrorists launched an attack on the busy Isanlu–Isin–Omu Aran highway, a major route linking several communities in the state. During the attack, the gunmen reportedly intercepted travellers on the road and kidnapped at least four passengers.

The incident has once again heightened fear among residents and road users, as the highway is known to be a vital transportation corridor for commuters, traders, and motorists travelling within Kwara and to adjoining states. The attack came amid growing security concerns in the region, following the recent mass killing in parts of Niger State, which occurred less than two days earlier.

The back-to-back incidents have raised fresh questions about the safety of major roads and the spread of terrorist activities across North-Central Nigeria. As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the identities of the abducted passengers and the circumstances of their release, if any, remain unclear. Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the attack, while residents have continued to call for increased security presence along the highway to prevent further incidents.
