A devastating late-night fire outbreak in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State has claimed the lives of six siblings, aged between four months and 12 years, throwing the community into deep mourning.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night when a fire engulfed a residential building where the children were asleep. According to eyewitnesses, the blaze spread rapidly, trapping the victims inside the house before help could arrive.
Residents who noticed the fire raised an alarm and attempted to rescue the children, but the intensity of the flames made it impossible to gain access in time. The six children were later confirmed dead at the scene.
Their mother, who was reportedly outside the house when the fire started, collapsed after discovering the loss and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. She is said to be receiving treatment for shock and injuries sustained during the incident.
Local authorities and security operatives have since visited the scene, while the cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined. Preliminary reports suggest it may have been triggered by an electrical fault, though investigations are ongoing.
