Former U.S. President Donald Trump was on Friday honoured with the first-ever FIFA Peace Prize during the World Cup draw ceremony held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the award onstage, describing Trump as the unanimous choice for the inaugural honour. He said Trump was selected “in recognition of his exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.”

Handing him the trophy, medal and certificate, Infantino added: “This is your prize, this is your peace prize. There is also a beautiful medal for you that you can wear everywhere you want to go.”

According to FIFA, the Peace Prize celebrates “individuals who help unite people in peace through unwavering commitment and special actions.”

In his acceptance speech, Trump described the recognition as “one of the great honours of my life.” He went on to credit his administration with preventing conflicts globally, saying he had “saved millions and millions of lives,” citing the Democratic Republic of Congo and tensions between India and Pakistan as examples.

The ceremony formed part of the activities leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
