A retired High Court judge in Delta State, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, has been found d£ad in her Asaba residence, triggering a full-scale police investigation into the suspected mu¥rder.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the late judge was discovered in her sitting room at No. 8 Tom Halen Street, behind IBTC Bank, with her hands and legs tied and her mouth gagged with a wrapper.
Her brother, Emeka Okogwu, found her body early Saturday morning and immediately alerted the police around 8:00 a.m. Patrol teams were swiftly deployed to the scene.
Police have arrested the on-duty security guard, identified as Lucky Matthew, for questioning, while another guard, Godwin Vanen, was reported missing and is currently being traced by investigators.
The judge’s remains were taken to Maduemeie Hospital Mortuary, Asaba. Authorities say the motive for the k!lling remains unclear, and the identities of those behind the attack have not yet been determined.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for an in-depth probe. Forensic teams are also combing the residence for evidence.
Residents described the incident as shocking, noting that Justice Okogwu was a quiet and highly respected member of the community.
Security experts have urged greater vigilance and more stringent monitoring of private security personnel in residential areas following the incident.
