Amid escalating insecurity and frequent bandit attacks across several regions of the country, many churches have begun implementing strict security measures to safeguard their congregations.
In response to growing safety concerns, churches are installing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, strengthening perimeter security, and increasing the presence of local vigilantes during services. Some denominations have also suspended night vigils and other late-evening gatherings, citing the heightened risks associated with nighttime worship.
Clergy members say the decisions, though difficult, are necessary to protect worshippers. They also urged government authorities to intensify efforts to curb insecurity, stressing that places of worship should remain safe havens for citizens.
Despite the adjustments, church leaders reassure members that normal services will continue under enhanced security protocols until conditions improve.
