A mother of one of the prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members recently released after being abducted in Imo State has revealed that her family allegedly paid N6 million to secure her son’s freedom.
According to the woman, the family spent weeks negotiating with the kidnappers before eventually raising the ransom demanded for his release.
She said relatives gathered the money in Ibadan and converted it to dollars before travelling to Imo State to deliver the ransom.
The disclosure has sparked reactions online, with some Nigerians questioning the circumstances surrounding the release of the abducted prospective corps members.
The revelation also appears to contradict earlier official reports suggesting that the victims were rescued by security operatives.
The mother’s account has therefore raised questions about whether ransom payments were made for the victims’ release and the circumstances under which they regained their freedom.
The claims have not been independently verified, while authorities have yet to publicly clarify the discrepancy between the reported rescue and the mother’s account.
