According to a statement released on the Army’s X account and signed by the brigade’s Assistant Director of Public Relations, Major Yemi Sokoya, the operation took place on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
During the water patrol, soldiers intercepted a speedboat carrying four abducted civilians who were being taken toward Isangele / Achibong — across the border in the Republic of Cameroon.
On sighting the troops, the kidnappers opened fire in an attempt to escape. The soldiers responded with accurate and superior firepower, forcing the criminals to abandon the captives and flee into nearby creeks. As a result, all four kidnapped victims — along with their belongings — were rescued safely.

The rescue was carried out without any reported casualties among the soldiers, underscoring the professionalism and readiness of the brigade.
In a subsequent statement, the brigade commander, Brigadier General P.O. Alimikhena, praised the troops for their vigilance, courage and dedication to duty. He said the operation demonstrates the brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks operating in coastal and riverine communities.

The brigade reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard residents in Cross River State and maintain security in vulnerable areas.
