The United Kingdom has reportedly turned down a formal request from the Federal Government of Nigeria to have former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, transferred home to serve the remainder of his prison sentence.
The Nigerian government had sought Ekweremadu’s repatriation under existing prisoner-transfer agreements, but UK authorities declined, insisting he must complete his sentence in Britain.
Ekweremadu is currently serving time following his conviction in the UK for organ-trafficking–related offences.
The decision means the former lawmaker will remain in a UK correctional facility until the completion of his jail term.
