President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved major changes in Nigeria’s military leadership, sacking the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other service chiefs.In a statement issued on Friday, the Presidency announced the appointment of new military heads to take charge of the nation’s defence apparatus with immediate effect.
Major-General Olufemi Oluyede has been named the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Musa. Also appointed are Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.However, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
The sweeping shake-up, according to the Presidency, is aimed at strengthening national security operations and improving coordination across the armed forces amid ongoing security challenges in the country.The new appointees have been directed to resume immediately and are expected to bring renewed vigour and professionalism to Nigeria’s military leadership.
