A devastating fire has destroyed a cluster of makeshift buildings in the Rumuola area of Rivers State, claiming the lives of two young siblings and leaving more than 27 families without shelter.
The blaze, which broke out in the early hours of the day, spread rapidly through the densely packed structures, giving residents little time to escape.
Community members said the two children, who were home at the time of the incident, were trapped before help could reach them.
Emergency responders and locals eventually managed to put out the fire, but not before it consumed several rooms and personal belongings, reducing the settlement to ashes.
Affected families are now calling for assistance as they struggle with the loss of their homes and property. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and prevent similar incidents in the area.
