BBC Chairman Samir Shah says the corporation is fully prepared to challenge the billion-dollar defamation lawsuit filed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, insisting the case has no merit.
Shah described the suit—triggered by claims of a misleadingly edited clip—as “baseless,” adding that the BBC stands by its journalism and will defend its integrity in court.
According to him, the organisation followed standard editorial procedures and did not engage in any act that could amount to defamation. He emphasised that the BBC will not be intimidated by legal pressure and is confident the facts will speak for themselves.
The chairman also reiterated the broadcaster’s commitment to accurate reporting, noting that the legal team is already preparing a robust defence.
