Police in Kenya have arrested three Nigerian nationals accused of being in the country illegally and engaging in cyber fraud and other criminal activities.The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during a joint operation involving police and immigration officers at their hideout in Mwihoko village, Ngurubani town, Mwea East Sub-county.
Kirinyaga County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO), Justus Imana, said the arrests followed a tip-off from concerned members of the public.During the raid, officers recovered 21 mobile phones, 79 SIM cards, a Dell laptop, 37 credit cards from various banks, seven different foreign currencies, and a white powdery substance alongside items suspected to be used in witchcraft.
According to Imana, investigations revealed that the suspects had entered Kenya between 2021 and January 2025 and had overstayed their visas.“Their passports indicate that they are in the country illegally. One arrived in 2021, another in 2023, and the third in January 2025,” he stated.He also urged anyone who may have fallen victim to the suspects’ activities to come forward and assist with identification, adding that the trio will be arraigned in court on Thursday, November 13.The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Wednesday, describing the operation as a “well-coordinated multi-agency raid” that dismantled a suspected cybercrime ring.
“The suspects — Peter Chukwujekwu, Alazor Chukulute Sunday, and Nnalue Chiagozie Samwel — were flushed out after alert members of the public raised concerns about suspicious movements and late-night activities in a rented apartment,” the DCI said.“When detectives stormed the premises, they recovered multiple mobile phones, SIM cards, a laptop, and dozens of credit cards from various banks, all pointing to a sophisticated cyber fraud network.
