The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has disowned a viral social media post that falsely attributed critical comments about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s security situation to her.
In a statement released on Friday, Okonjo-Iweala described the post as “entirely fabricated,” warning the public against spreading misinformation using her name and image. She emphasised that she has not made any statement regarding Nigeria’s current political or security issues, adding that such fake posts are part of ongoing attempts to mislead the public and damage her reputation.

The WTO chief urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing, stressing that official communications from her would only come through verified channels.“I want to make it clear that I have not made any comments about President Tinubu or Nigeria’s security situation.
Please disregard these fake messages being circulated,” she stated.
This clarification follows a wave of misinformation on social media, where several fabricated quotes have recently been attributed to high-profile Nigerian figures.
