In a statement issued on Friday, the group emphasized that the demand aligns with the long-standing aspiration of the Anioma people to have a state of their own and to be fully integrated with their Igbo kinsmen in the South-East.

According to the movement, the creation of Anioma State would promote equity, justice, and balanced representation among Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, each of which should have an equal number of states.

The group urged the National Assembly and relevant authorities to give serious consideration to their proposal during the next round of constitutional amendments, stressing that the people of Anioma have the population, resources, and administrative capacity to function effectively as a state.

They further noted that the realization of Anioma State would strengthen national unity and address the long-standing marginalization of the South-East region.
