Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a consignment of cocaine concealed inside cream containers and destined for London, United Kingdom, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.According to a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the illicit drug—comprising 70 parcels of cocaine weighing 3.60 kilograms—was factory-packed within the walls of cocoa butter formula body cream containers.
The discovery was made on October 14, 2025, during an examination of cargoes declared as personal effects scheduled to be shipped on an Air Peace flight to London.Following the seizure, NDLEA operatives arrested the cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, who had presented the consignment for airfreight. Further investigations, spanning two weeks, led to the apprehension of two additional suspects identified as Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, a female healthcare worker, and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, the Chief Executive Officer of Mutiu Adebiyi & Co., a Lagos-based travel agency.Ogunmuyide was picked up on October 18, while Adebiyi was arrested two days later at his office located at 23 Ladoke Akintola Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.In a related operation, NDLEA officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, foiled another drug trafficking attempt involving a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, who tried to export 103.59 grams of methamphetamine concealed inside a pack of Diabeta Herbs Coffee Tea to the Philippines.
The suspect was intercepted on October 22, 2025, while attempting to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight.The NDLEA said both seizures highlight its sustained efforts to clamp down on transnational drug trafficking networks operating within Nigeria’s borders.
